The metabolic model describes the relationship between oxygen demand, lactate accumulation and clearance.

Oxygen uptake is given in ml/min and increases linearly with increasing power. Lactate production is given in mmol/l/s and increases exponentially with increasing power. It is also dependent on your anaerobic power (VLamax). The fuel requirement lactate indicates the maximum capacity to metabolise (degrade) lactate. The intersection of lactate build-up and possible degradation describes the anaerobic threshold.
